The only truth and absolute fact about Y2K is that we really don't
know how much will fail or how it will impact our lives. We do know many areas of our
lives aren't fixed yet and likely won't be in time. We also know that disaster agencies,
even if prepared, may be stretched to capacity with no help from outside sources.
Therefore, what we need to do is to view all the conflicting and confusing evidence in the
simplest of terms -- we are going to have a problem.
Prepare intelligently. Extra supplies to cover your basic needs of shelter, water, fire
and food for the short term. Learn wilderness skills for the long term. Knowledge is the
best insurance. It can never be taken from you. If you know how to build a shelter, get
safe drinking water, make fire without matches, and find and prepare animals/plants for
food you'll be safe in any environment. You will be able to call anywhere home.
We live in a technological, complicated, vulnerable society. It is part of an intricate
web -- a tapestry. All interwoven and connected. And, many of the threads could be broken.
Understanding the basic survival priorities, acquiring knowledge and then reinforcing it
with needed supplies will replace the fear, confusion and uncertainty with
self-confidence, then it won't matter how many threads are broken or how long it takes to
fix them.
To be prepared is responsible. To be unprepared is selfish. Shelter, water, fire and
food are your needs. All the rest are wants.
And the spiritual and emotional aspects of preparedness cannot be overemphasized.
Each person needs to have a sure foundation of trust in the Lord.
